The Huron Story

Founded in 1970 by hockey legends Ron Mason, College Hockey’s All Time Winningest Coach, Bill Mahoney, former NHL Coach with Washington, Detroit and Minnesota and Brian Gilmour, Boston University 1967 All American, Huron Hockey School quickly became the world’s finest hockey instructional program through a simple concept of hockey instruction by Professional Educators.

In 1991 Newell Brown, NHL Coach with Detroit, Chicago, Anaheim and Columbus, Ted Sator, NHL Coach with NY, Buffalo, Boston, St Louis, Hartford and Vancouver and Shawn Walsh, University of Maine Coach and 1993 and 1999 NCAA Champions joined the ownership team.

To date, over 650 NHL players and 100 plus NHL coaches have graduated from Huron Programs. Many current and former NHL and NCAA coaches still remain on staff enjoying a long-standing camaraderie and relationship with Huron.

Over the years, Huron has been involved in ownership of a very successful Junior A team in the NAHL, managed and owned hockey playing facilities and been a true world leader in the on going and ever expanding nature of hockey instruction today. Huron continues to up-grade and fine-tune the latest in teaching technology adding daily to the over 200,000 youth we have taught over our rich history in hockey instruction.

Today, the dreams of these founding fathers is alive and well heading into Huron’s 36th year of offering instructional programs for players from youth to professional levels of hockey.

In June 2006, Rink Management Services Corporation purchased Huron and started to provide facilities that they operated a turnkey model to providing the best hockey instructional product in the game today. The two companies combined experiences of 50+ years in the sport of ice arenas has seen them provide instruction for beginner to serious hockey players, figure skaters and recreational enthusiasts wanting to enjoy the sport even more.
